Welcome to My Community
Sometimes, there are few better feelings than when you realise you’re not alone. If like me, you yearn for a slower, simpler and more seasonal approach to life, then I am thrilled to welcome you here.
In days past, many of our ancestors spent their whole lives travelling no further than the often tiny parish of their birth. At best, they might venture to the nearest market town, and in rare cases, make pilgrimages to spiritual and historical sites. Nowadays, we can travel the world with relative ease. We crisscross the country barely thinking of the distances we’ve travelled. In many respects, the online world is no different. We can choose to travel the world from the comfort of our own home. We can connect with family and friends wherever they might be located at the touch of a button. Whether we travel far physically, we certainly travel far digitally.
Many of you who find yourselves reading this will have come to know me through social media, particularly Instagram. Some of you will have come through the A Life More Creative website. Others will have been subscribers to my monthly newsletter, Creative Notes which ran for nearly five years. Wherever you’ve come from, you are very welcome to this beautiful community of like-minded individuals. I know that despite being scattered all over the world, you’ve probably arrived here via just a few clicks.
I wonder if our ancestors would marvel at our ability to travel and connect with one and other across the globe? On the contrary, they might be alarmed at the prospect, for they knew, just as we do, that this connectedness brings with it many challenges. Life is fragile, and the online spaces where we meet are tinged with fragility too.
So why Rediscover · Reconnect · Re-Emerge, why Substack, and why now?
It was a long journey towards launching the A Life More Creative website back in December 2023. In fact, I have to confess that by the time I reached that launch date, I was worn out by it. All the energy it had taken to bring it to fruition, had, in many ways, sapped my enthusiasm for it. But, a few months on, and with the restorative season of winter behind us, now seems to the right time to emerge into the renewal and new life of spring.
So here we are, I’m David, and I’m thrilled to welcome you to my community here on Substack, Rediscover · Reconnect · Re-Emerge, a nourishing and soulful extension of my website and online journal, A Life More Creative.
Just as I’ve craved the slower, simpler life, so I’ve found many others who feel the same. It’s not easy though. In our fast-paced, technology-driven world, these things go firmly against the grain. It can feel like we’re constantly swimming upstream. So what’s my story, and how have my life experiences led to A Life More Creative and to this beautiful community where we seek to Rediscover · Reconnect · Re-Emerge? You can read a little more about that journey here.
So what can you expect to find here?
For me, this space on Substack is an opportunity to build community. To draw together those who feel and yearn for the same. Shared experiences are a vital part of any community, and I hope that we will journey together. I’d like it to be more than just a monthly newsletter. You can expect to find slow, simple and seasonal living, and a good dose of creativity at its heart.
Subscribers to Rediscover · Reconnect · Re-Emerge receive weekly emails each Sunday, divided into four series:
Slow & Simple Moments
Beyond the Notes
Reflections on a Simple Past
Inspirations & Connections
They all explore aspects of slow, simple and seasonal living, with a good dose of creativity, and most importantly, reflection. If some of this resonates with you, and you’d like to dig deeper, you can become a paid subscriber for £4 a month or just £40 a year. Paid subscribers receive regular posts including seasonal publications such as:
A Seasonal Notebook
Sensing the Seasons
These include resources, downloads, playlists and tools to help you explore what living a slower, simpler and more seasonal life might look like for you. They also offer you an opportunity to connect with others, to share that journey with those you might call kindred spirits. Paid subscribers also receive full access to the archive.
Just as I continue on this journey of discovery, I’m excited to see what the future brings, and how together, as a community, we can rediscover, reconnect and re-emerge.
If you’re not already doing so, I’d love you to follow me over on Instagram. You can also visit the A Life More Creative website, where you can find out more about My Story, and read articles from my online Journal. Subscribe on Substack to receive new posts and to support my work:
