I love how you've compared scarecrows to life and loneliness, David! It never crossed my mind to do so and the only scarecrows that I know are from Oz and Howl's Moving Castle (Studio Ghibli). Oh! And the series, Over The Garden Wall, which is a proper Autumn watch, in my opinion. 😊🎃

I had never seen a scarecrow until I was wandering around a path in the Black Forest and there, next to several apple trees, was an attempt to create a scarecrow. I didn't take a picture of it as I got distracted by the apples. 😅 But you're right. I did immediately feel a sense of loneliness, even emptiness, when I saw it. And I could relate quite a lot to this:

"Friends come and go, often with alarming regularity; life changes, and we too can feel discarded; easily replaced."

Earlier this month I had to navigate this, it wasn't too intense, but it was a reality check to what extent I give my energy away to people.

Have you seen the remakes of Worzel Gummidge by Mackenzie Crook? They are completely enchanting. A fascinating piece and confess I don't ever remember seeing one in a field but, if they are like this portrayal of Worzel Gummidge, I would love to!

Ooh, no I haven’t come across them, but I think enchanting would be far more appropriate.
