Such wise words David. I think as we get older, we do crave more of the simplicity of the older ways. Mu husband has recently done a bush craft course, to learn some of the skills of years gone by. Skills that are sadly disappearing.

Your words about increased housing developments struck a cord with me. I've been lucky to live in a village for nearly 20 years now, but we are now being plagued by developers, like yourself in Lichfield. Our road, once a cul-de-sac with lovely country views, is now access to a new housing estate. There are also other new developments recently approved around the village. More fields disappearing.

It’s so sad isn’t it? And no one seems to stand in their way! 🙄

Community is one of my values too. I have the feeling the people of the past took community as a vital part of their lives. I still believe it is much needed in our modern day times ✨

I believe we can and should incorporate the old with the new. The past teaches us so much and yet is so easily forgotten. As a craftswoman, I feel the history of my craft in my bones and that connection makes me better at what I do. Taking time to be in those places that carry on the old traditions reconnects us with our past. Thanks for the thoughts!

I too grew up in the industrial Midlands, but always longed for the country. Thank you very much for the introduction to this series, I didn't know of it and what a treasure it is.

Such wisdom here David. I love living in London but as I get older, I am feeling the indelible pull of the countryside more and more. When my husband asked me what I wanted to do for my birthday next week, all I really wanted was to spend a few days in the Cotswolds so I think there is something in what you say. Thank you for another lovely post and something to ponder. I wonder if I can still find that TV programme on a streaming platform somewhere.

Thank you 🙏 I’m so glad you enjoyed reading this 🌿 It looks like there are several episodes on YouTube, but I’m not sure you can access them other than on DVD. Such wonderful nostalgia fests though!
