Some 30 years on, the memories of our school trips live on, and in looking back, we find ourselves so easily transported back to a simpler time. How lucky we were to have had those experiences.
That was lovely to read David, it evoked some memories of my school trips back in the 70’s. One that stands out the most was a trip to Aberglaslyn Hall in Wales, an outdoor activity centre. I remember visiting a farm that had llama’s and a trip on the Ffestiniog railway.
I enjoyed reading this David. It took me back to my school days, our school trips were always to the same place - the local National Trust park. The announcement of a day out was met with huffs and eye rolls by Year 6. The highlight was not having to wear school uniform, it felt strange seeing everyone in their regular clothes 😂
Wow, London would have been an amazing school trip! I'm envious :-)
For me it was the Yorvik Centre and Burton Agnes Hall, I think we went to a farm too? Burton Agnes Hall was the most exciting because it has a ghost and we all hoped we might see it. 👻
What a happy excursion! You sent me off remembering some wonderful school trips, in particular Stokesay Castle, which I have loved ever since, and a trip to Haworth, roaming over the moors on a blisteringly hot day. Thank you for a lovely piece.
I went away to boarding school but we still had outings or trips on occasions,I recall going to the National Theatre to see Julius Caesar which we are studying but it was in modern dress I think ,I950's style! I also remember going to Madame Tussaud's as a special treat because I couldn't go home for half term!
Thank you for sharing these memories with us, David. I remember taking the train for the first time for one of our school trips when I was in 5th grade (I was 11 yrs old) and it was so exciting! ✨
One of my most memorable school trips was going to visit the baker with his huge woodfired oven. It left a lasting impression and is why I became a baker with my own woodfired oven!
Awwww I love this so much! 🥰❤️ I can remember going to the Millennium Dome, and something to do with Robin Hood (where there was also a sort of ride), which I’m guessing must have been in Nottingham? I’m not sure if I can remember any others! 😂 For primary school that is. At secondary school I went on a trip to a city for a history lesson to watch a play. I can’t remember what it was. 😅 It might have been in Leeds. And then there was a trip to Lincoln Uni one time and Boston College. 😂
I really enjoyed this - thank you. The school trips that stand out in my memory are Beamish (the northern kids equivalent of the Black Country Museum!), the Granada Studios Tour (an end of Middle School Treat) and the Royal Armouries museum in Leeds.

Thank you 🙏✨ Yes, we all seemed to do a castle!

I wonder if there was anyone famous in Julius Caesar?

A lovely first memory!

That sounds amazing - I would have loved that!

Is the Millennium Dome when you got stuck in the loo?
😂 I think they nearly all left to go elsewhere in the Dome while I was in the loo! I think a teacher came to check thankfully.
😮

I like that it is basically the same places, but the equivalent in a different part of the country 😂🌿
